Join the Congress of Santa Barbara (KOSANBA) for an exciting colloquium entitled "Trees Take Us to the Gods: Vodou and the Environment" to be held during the Haitian Studies Association conference October 21-25, 2015 in at the Universite de Montreal in Quebec. Proposals are due by May 31.

An article about our inaugural conference has been covered by the Harvard Gazette. An excerpt:

"The conference seemed to say: Bring the body back to spirituality. It also seemed to say: Bring back the portability of the sacred. In a gathering whose main theme was divine space, a lesson emerged from Africa’s spiritual diaspora: In a world of churches, temples, and mosques, the sacred does not require a building; it is present in everyday life."
