The African and Diasporic Religious Studies Association is honored to welcome Professor Wande Abimbola as our keynote speaker for our 2015 Conference entitled African and Diasporic Spiritual Soundscapes to be held at Harvard University on April 3, 2015. Abimbola is Professor Emeritus of African Languages and Literatures at Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly the University of Ife), President and Founder of the Ifa Hertiage Institute, and President of the Orisa World Congress. A babalawo who has studied Ifa chants and rituals since childhood, he was named the the Awise Awo ni Agbaye (spokesperson for Ifa throughout the world) by the Ooni of Ife and has served in this position since 1981.

Abimbola has taught at institutions throughout Nigeria and the United States, including the University of Ibadan, Harvard University, Boston College, and Colgate University and has authored and edited a voluminous collection of articles, book chapters, and books including Ifa Will Mend Our Broken World, Yoruba Oral Tradition (ed), and Ifa: An Exposition of Ifa Literary Corpus.
